Morning Talk by 5C Michelle Ma

Good morning Principal, teachers, and fellow schoolmates:

I am Michelle Ma from Class 5C. I’m honoured to give a talk about  "National Green Energy Development".

The term green energy, as you may know, refers to all resources directly derived from nature, such as sunlight, wind, and water. The characteristic of green energy is that it’s renewable and almost inexhaustible.

Currently, fossil fuels, such as oil, natural gas, and coal, are widely used globally. However, they are limited resources that take millions of years to generate. In addition, they often emit pollutants such as greenhouse gases which exacerbate climate change. Therefore, in recent years, China has shifted its focus to developing green energy, hoping to slow down environmental pollution and avoid the day when fossil fuels are exhausted. Next, I will introduce the development and impact of the country's research and development on green energy.

Firstly, in 2022, the newly installed capacity of wind and photovoltaic power generation in China reached 125 million kilowatts, surpassing 100 million kilowatts for three consecutive years and reaching a new historical high. Throughout the year, renewable energy added 152 million kilowatts of installed capacity, accounting for 76.2% of the country's new power generation installed capacity, and has become the main body of China's new electricity installed capacity. The role of renewable energy in ensuring energy supply is becoming increasingly evident.

Green energy has not only made progress in research development and construction, but also continuously enhanced the competitiveness of renewable energy. Firstly, the development of renewable energy has a high degree of marketization, with multiple market entities, sufficient competition, and strong innovation vitality. Moreover, technological progress has significantly reduced costs, such as the average conversion efficiency of mass-produced single-crystal silicon batteries reaching 23.1%. The continuous emergence of new models and businesses such as renewable energy hydrogen production reflects the country's particular emphasis on the development of green energy.

In summary, during the period of 2022, it is evident that China has made multiple developments in green energy. It is believed that in the future, people may no longer need to excessively use fossil fuels, but instead choose more environmentally friendly green energy to jointly protect nature. That's all of my sharing, thank you!
